Inspired by the Pokemon Go craze, Discovering MK reveals 50 hidden gems around the city by following an interactive trail. At each location along the trail, users will be able to unlock information about the landmark, take a fun mini quiz and can choose to upload a ‘selfie’ to show where they are.
Split into five areas, the trail will take users to Milton Keynes’ iconic buildings, historic landmarks, public art, woodlands and parks; uncovering more about the users’ home city each step of the way. Unlike anything seen before in Milton Keynes, this app offers the unique opportunity to uncover fascinating information about our poets, our designers and our pioneers – sharing the story of Milton Keynes. The app is accessible to every smartphone user and is free to download on Android and iPhone via Google Play and the Apple Store – see the Discovering MK website for links to the app.
Discovering MK can be accessed on foot bike or scooter, and we encourage users to take this opportunity to explore Milton Keynes’ extensive network of Redways and the Santander Cycles scheme.
Launching in July, the app will be promoted through printed materials, press releases, social media and newsletters. To keep up momentum, there will also be competitions taking place during 2017.
We have created this Primary Schools resource, linking the locations within the app to the Primary curriculum: Discovering MK Primary Curriculum Links
Discovering MK is part of a conversation about what makes Milton Keynes special and we want people to share their favourite places and spaces too on social media using the hashtag #DiscoveringMK.
The Arts & Heritage Alliance Milton Keynes have developed this project in support of the 50th anniversary of Milton Keynes and are working with MK21 to create the app. This project has been generously supported with funding from Heritage Lottery Fund with thanks to National Lottery players, MK Community Foundation, MK Council and Santander Cycles MK.
